Hey Folx!
Today marks the end of Latinx Heritage Month 2021, but that desn’t mean that it’s time to stop learning. Or that Latinx parents and teachers with predominantly Latinx students don’t still need resources. Representation is important year round!
Here are some of our favorite books featuring Latinx characters and communities.
"Dreamers" by Yuyi Morales is the moving story of Yuyi’s immigration to the US with her young son.
"My Papi Has a Motorcycle" by Isabel Quintero is a young girl's love letter to her hardworking dad and to memories of home that we hold close in the midst of change.
"A Song of Frutas" by Margarita Engle is a lively, rhythmic picture book about a little girl visiting her grandfather who is a pregonero--a singing street vendor in Cuba--and helping him sell his frutas.
"May Your Life Be Deliciosa" by Michael Genhart is a delicious and fortifying picture book inspired by the author's family, featuring the Mexican tradition of holiday tamale-making
"Queen of Tejano Music: Selena" by Silvia López is a moving and impassioned picture book about the iconic Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla, that will embolden young readers to find their passion and make the impossible, possible!
"Mi Casa Is My Home" by Laurenne Sala follows Lucia into her bustling casa to meet an intergenerational array of loved ones in a charming Spanglish celebration of family life.
As always, we love to help support small and BIPOC-owned bookshops. Shopping our bookshop is a great way for you to join us in this mission,
but we also know this may not be an accessible option for everyone. All of these books can be found at larger retailers as well.
Thanks for reading and all of your support.
