Happy Winter, everyone!

We’ve rounded up a few books celebrating the season from diverse perspectives in hopes that every child can find themselves in these pages. Find a warm spot to snuggle up and share some of these reads with your favorite little ones. ♥️

“Nutcracker Night” by  Mireille Messier  (Author)  and Gabrielle Grimard  (Illustrator) featuring a young Asian protagonist and her father,  is a celebration of a Christmas classic that is often a child's first experience of the ballet.

"Our Favorite Day of the Year" by   A. E. Ali  (Author)  and Rahele Jomepour Bell  (Illustrator) is heartwarming picture book following a group of boys from different backgrounds throughout the school year as they become the best of friends. While it isn’s focused solely on winter holidays, it is a place to start when de-centering Christmas.

“Ten Ways to Hear Snow” by  Cathy Camper  (Author)  and Kenard Pak  (Illustrator) With stunning illustrations and thoughtful representation of a modern Arab American family, this sweet tale is a layered exploration of mindfulness, empathy, and what we realize when the world gets quiet.

“Too Many Tamales” by Gary Soto  (Author)  and Ed Martinez  (Illustrator) A modern classic celebrating the tradition of tamales and family bonding at Christmas.  A story of a treasure thought to be lost in a batch of tamales; and the warm way a family pulls together to make it a perfect Christmas after all.

"Li'l Rabbit's Kwanzaa" by  Donna L. Washington  (Author)  and Shane W. Evans  (Illustrator) is a bright, playful, story that captures the spirit of community that is the essence of the Kwanzaa.

"The Real Santa" by  Nancy Redd  (Author)  and Charnelle Pinkney Barlow  (Illustrator) one Black family on journeys to discover what the real Santa looks like in this joyous tale celebrating identity, family and holiday cheer.

As always, we love to help support small and BIPOC-owned bookshops. Shopping our bookshop is a great way for you to join us in this mission, but we also know this may not be an accessible option for everyone. All of these books can be found at larger retailers as well.

Thanks for reading and all of your support.
