This mini-unit explores the concept of family and the different meanings and structures of families. Throughout the 12 pages of this mini-unit, students will explore how families can look the same or different, how families can be made up of relatives related through blood or chosen relatives. How some families have two parents, others have one parent, or some have aunts and uncles or grandma and grandpas who fill the spaces of love and care.
This unit includes a suggested educator prompt sheet along with a student worksheet.
Some questions posed include:
"Who is part of your chosen family?"
"What is a way that we can embrace all families?"
The mini-unit also includes lesson-extending activities for students to work through alone or for teachers to complete as a classroom activity.
